WEEK 16 - Show us your most glorious food pun!
This week, Scotty Russell cooked up a funny, punny & yummy assignment for us!
Hello and welcome to Week 16 of #HOMwork!
This week, we have a special guest assignment from Scotty Russell (aka @prspctv_cllctv). He's a freelance lettering artist and illustrator based out of Cedar Falls, Iowa who strives to encourage his creative peers through his weekly Perspective Podcast (which I had the pleasure of being a guest on this week - listen here). Scotty is a big advocate for pursuing the type of side projects you want to get paid to create. He also believes your hobby has more potential than you think.
Obviously, he and I had a TON of great stuff to talk about during my episode.Click here to give it a listen!
Your assignment from Scotty:
This week, your assignment is to create a glorious pun based on your favorite food. Bust out your drawing utensils or whip out your iPad Pros and gimme whatcha got for a pork chop (Chingy reference anyone?).
Punny Food Examples:
It’s nacho business, I don’t wanna taco ‘bout it.
Hot dog those are some nice buns!
Go shawty, it’s sherbert day.
You already know your boy is rolling with a cheesy pizza theme. This has been a weekly reminder since high school to not spend all my hard earned cash on pizza.
So why food puns?
I’m going on a limb here and assume you like food just as much as me? Every day it seems to be the topic of conversation with my wife, co-workers and my cats. Every celebration, big or small tends to revolve around food and pizza is always my go to.
A few years back, I broke my strict Instagram curation and started publicly introducing my love for pizza in my work. Oddly enough, that tends to be the work people associate with me the most and always is a best seller.
I’m also a huge lover of word play with a keen obsession for puns. It not only stimulates your brain but it’s also a secret weapon to force a grin on someone’s face.
It’s easy to get wrapped up in negativity and other people’s drama these days. What better way to diffuse the situation or to inject some comic relief into a dull conversation then with a brilliant (or shitty) pun?
Let’s celebrate your weird food obsession in a clever way that can:
1. Put a smile on that fellow food lovers face.
2. Stimulate the mind and put something quirky into the world.
Let’s get cookin’.
Post your final piece on Instagram with the hashtag #HOMwork. Make sure to tag both me @prspctv_cllctv and Lauren @homsweethom in your post, too. We’ll both be featuring our favorite pieces in our Story all week!
