WEEK 50 - Count orgasms, not calories in 2019.
Resolution Re-Dos
Hello and welcome to Week 51 of #HOMwork!
We’re ending one year (!!!) of this weekly challenge with a guest assignment from my talented friend, collaborator, and most importantly, college roommate, Sophie Erskine. Sophie is the Brand Director for two very cool bars, Butter & Scotch in New York and Ladybar in Seattle (coming soon). She channels her love of food and drinks into building fun and impactful work for each brand.
From Sophie:
I hear so much body negativity this time of year. It’s subtle because it’s so ingrained in our culture, but simple comments like, “I can’t have another cookie or I won't be able to fit into my jeans” or “I’m going to pay for this at the gym tomorrow” can really take the simple joys out of the holidays. Moreover, cliché diet resolutions can put a damper on the excitement of the endless possibilities of a new year. Which is why, for this assignment, I wanted to take some time to shift the tone of resolutions (particularly ones centered around deprivation) into something more fun and positive. What if we focused on gaining skills, experiences, and memories instead of losing weight?
This assignment isn’t about shaming anyone for wanting to change the way they eat, exercise, or take care of themselves; it’s all about learning to love yourself the way you are so you can spend more time enjoying the fuck out of your life.
This week's #HOMwork assignment is to letter or design a cliché diet resolution and give it a positive, non-diet spin.
A few examples to get you started:
Count Orgasms, Not Calories
Worry Less About The Thigh Gap and More About the Wage Gap
Step on the Dance Floor, Not the Scale
In the caption tell us about the original cliché that inspired your post and what your non-diet resolutions are for the new year!
Don't forget to tag me @homsweethom and @sophieerskine and use the hashtag #HOMwork so we can see your resolutions and send supportive vibes your way. We'll be sharing our faves in our stories all week!
Love,
Sophie & Lauren
P.S. If you want a chance to wear this resolution on your sleeve, you can buy Sophie’s Count Orgasms, Not Calories Tee from the Butter & Scotch online shop.
