WEEK 8 - Celebrating the little white lies we tell ourselves!

In 2012, I was dishonest...almost on a daily basis.

Welcome to Week 8 of #HOMwork!

For those of you who have been following my work for a while, you know exactly where this is going and I hope it's a fun throwback ;)

For those of you who are new, the lies I'm referring to are from my very first passion project, Daily Dishonesty. It chronicled the funny white lies I told myself through hand lettered images that I'd post to a blog.

To my surprise, this little passion project got shared online like crazy...

which got tons of new eyeballs on my work...

which led to lots of new freelance projects...

which ultimately gave me both the financial AND personal confidence to quit my full-time job and build my own business instead!

Long story short:
this project changed the entire course of my creative career, so I want to celebrate it properly by turning it into HOMwork.

If you want to hear me talk about the details of this passion project + a few others I've created, you should watch this talk I gave at The Design Conference last year.

Your assignment this week is to letter a "Daily Dishonesty" of your own.

Pick something personal and relevant in your everyday life. If you get stuck brainstorming, a few easy places to start are:

  • Work

  • Relationships/dating

  • Family and home life

  • Friends and socializing

  • Food and drink (my personal favorite hehe)

As always, the second part of the challenge is to post your finished piece on Instagram with the hashtag #HOMwork so we can see what everyone created. In the caption, I’d love for you to tell us a true story about a time when you (or someone you know) told that little white lie.

Bonus points for browsing through the hashtag and commenting on other participants’ posts that you can relate to!

Can’t wait to see what dishonesty you design this week.

Love,
Lauren

Over the next few years (and thanks to the power of the internet), she leveraged a few clever passion projects into a thriving design career.

When she's not designing, you can probably find her cooking an elaborate vegetarian meal at home or finally making her way through the niche craft supplies she bought last year.
