WEEK 14

December 2024 Update: I’m no longer represented by this agent because he failed to pay me for a significant amount of work I’d already completed. I no longer endorse him and am deeply disappointed, both personally and professionally, by his actions. ☹️

Hey there, thanks for joining us for Week 14 of HOMwork 2020!

This week, we have a very special guest teacher - my agent, Ryan Appleton!

Ryan is the founder of Co-Loop, an artist management agency built on a core value of collaboration over competition. With over 7 years of experience working in the commercial art and advertising industry, he manages all of my client projects, brand partnerships and speaking engagements (aka the stuff he’s really good at) so I can focus on the stuff I’m really good at like drawing, being a knowledgable weirdo on social media and creating new online classes.

Okay, enough with the serious stuff: you should also know that Ryan loves movies. In 2018 alone, he watched 467 new movies…and somehow still had time to manage my business?! That’s impressive. Since he’s usually behind-the-scenes of Hom Sweet Hom, I’m SO happy to have this opportunity to let you all get to know him a lil’ better.

From Ryan:

The rising tide will indeed raise all ships and we are stronger as a community if we choose to lift each other up as opposed to tear each other down. As the founder of Co-Loop, a new artist management agency built on those same strongly held beliefs, I want to encourage you to build your own creative foundation on COLLABORATiON.

For us, this ethos led the way as our brand was developed dually by Ade Hogue + Meg Lewis, resulting in a concept that will dynamically reflect the signature style of each roster artist. The partnership resulted in a home run design system and a logo that truly represents our core - The Loop: a seamless, collaborative relationship between the artist, the agent, the client, and the creative community as a whole.

Your assignment: Create (or craft) content centering on collaboration and community, creatively representing what each means to you.

Your mission should you choose to accept it: Show us a unique visual representation or one-word lettering piece to define what collaboration has meant for you or to demonstrate the importance of community amongst creatives (now more than ever). And bonus points if you partner with a friend to produce the piece collaboratively. Let's see how you can combine powers and create collectively!

Don’t forget to use the #HOMwork and #HOMwork2020 hashtags and tag @coloopco and @homsweethom when you post your work on Instagram. We’ll be sharing our favorites in our Stories all week!

P.S. In honor of our exciting announcement of Co-Loop, and to celebrate the creative roster of like-minded artists, I’d invite you to take a moment to check out their work on Instagram: Andy J. PizzaAde HogueNoah CampMeg LewisYao Cheng, and of course Lauren Hom (whom you all know and love)!

Lauren Hom

Lauren Hom is a designer, letterer, and educator. A self-proclaimed "artist with a business brain", she picked up hand lettering as a hobby while studying advertising in college. Over the next few years (and thanks to the power of the internet), she leveraged a few clever passion projects into a thriving design career.

When she's not designing, you can probably find her cooking an elaborate vegetarian meal at home or finally making her way through the niche craft supplies she bought last year.
