From Andy:
This week’s lettering prompt attempts to help you reveal new layers of your TRUE SELF in your creative work. SOUNDS EPIC RIGHT? IT IS!
The assignment is to make a lettering piece that’s a tattoo design for you… and your 6 year old self! The idea is to design a matching tat that both you and your is 6 year old self would think was super dope.
Here’s the kicker: if you get this thing right, guess who else will want in on this action? That’s right FUTURE YOU. This is where you start scratching the surface on your true essence. THIS is where you want to be creating from!
When you tap into past, present and future you’s taste, you’re transcending trends and breaking out of the current cultural moment and breaking into your own creative stratosphere!!
This process was the first big breakthrough I had in developing my own style over 10 years ago. These days in my illustration you’re gonna see a lot swords, mysterious trails up huge mountains, shadowy eyeballs hiding in caves / tree trunks, snakes and dragons. And my six year old self would think pretty much all of that would make for dope tats.
Your assignment: Design a tattoo design for you… and your 6 year old self!
Don’t forget to use the hashtag #HOMwork2020 & tag @andyjpizza and @homsweethom when you post your work, too! We’ll be sharing our favorites in our Stories all week!
