WEEK 14
This week, I'm excited to introduce Libbie Bischoff as our guest teacher! I think you'll LOVE this assignment inspired by the passion project she created after taking Passion to Paid.
Libbie is a brand and type designer living in the San Francisco Bay Area. She has worked with a variety of companies from large corporations to start ups and small businesses. Libbie has always loved lettering and type design — she even has an old sketchbook filled with ugly high school lettering to prove it!
She recently graduated from Type West, a type design certificate program through the Letterform Archive in San Francisco. Currently, she is working on starting her own type foundry, Type Du Nord. In her free time, Libbie enjoys knitting and sewing her own clothes and chilling with her dog, Morty.
From Libbie:
Climate change is a topic that is really scary and uncomfortable to talk about. So back in 2017, I started a project called Save The Fucking World. I lettered tips help people be more eco-conscious. It began as really simple changes we can make but evolved into posting information and statistics to help raise awareness.
There are many ways to approach this kind of a project — we could address how others can help on an individual level, or we could spread awareness about large corporations that are causing irreversible damage to our planet. One of the most powerful things about being an artist is the ability to make something digestible and approachable.
Your assignment: Design a piece of artwork advocating for the planet. Feature one action (big or small) that can be taken to combat climate change.
As always, don’t forget to use the hashtags #HOMwork & #HOMwork2021 & tag @typedunord and @homsweethom when you post your work. We’ll be sharing our favorites in our Stories all week :)

P.S. Starting next week, Libbie is launching a project where she will be creating a font every week for one year! They will be released for free every Friday starting on April 23rd. Sign up for her newsletter or follow her type foundry, Type Du Nord, on Instagram!
P.P.S. If you want to learn how to launch a creative (and strategic!) passion project of your very own, consider joining Passion to Paid, my best-selling marketing class for visual artists and designers. Here's what Libbie had to say about the experience:
"It's fun to think of a full scale project and then be able to dictate what happens with it. Since taking this course, I've been featured on a design blog, Dribbble's Twitter re-posted some of my work, and I'm becoming more well known in my community for being an expert when it comes to lettering. I'm also more motivated to work on things for myself that will help push my career in the right direction!"
