WEEK 5 - What does your future hold?
This week’s HOMwork assignment was inspired by a post about DIY horoscopes from my very first business coach.
When I was brainstorming this assignment, I realized I know approximately three things (total) about astrology:
I am a Scorpio.
That means I am a sexy badass.
“Mercury in retrograde” isn’t great. I think.
That’s it haha.
But even though I know almost nothing about astrology or horoscopes or how they work, I still love reading the Scorpio horoscope from time to time. I think that’s because I like the idea of having some clarity and direction about my future
Horoscopes have enough specificity to feel unique to my life, but enough ambiguity that I still feel like I am in control.
It’s like a well-written fortune: I get a little bit of personalized direction and then I get to decide how to apply it.
Some people are much more into astrology than I am, of course (and some people much less). Regardless of your stance on the accuracy of it all, I think horoscopes can be a great way to help you “choose your own adventure” because they give you a focal point without forcing you to do anything you’re not into.
In other words, horoscopes can help guide our lives and give us a little certainty when we need it.
Of course, I wouldn’t be a Scorpio if I didn’t try to take over haha. You know I’m all about self-reliance and trusting my gut. Writing my own horoscope seems like a great way to create some super-personalized (and self-fulfilling) guidance, don’t you think?!
Your assignment: Write your own horoscope and design or letter a piece around it.
Thought starters: Writing your horoscope out as if it’s from a third party is an exercise in putting what you want out into the real world and visualizing it as a certainty. It’s articulating your dreams or goals in a way that gives them some weight.
For me, I wanted a horoscope that reinforced my plan to go to culinary school. I’m still struggling with how impractical that choice seems compared to the day to day practices of my successful creative business.
But I also know that feeding my passions opens up a lot of new doors and creates a lot of wonderful opportunities for me in my life AND my business. So I wanted a horoscope that encouraged me to focus less on the “practical” and just do the Thing!
I’m going to use my DIY horoscope as encouragement to embrace the whimsical parts of my brain and to focus less on what I think people expect of me and my business.
Caption ideas: Use the caption of your post to explain how or why you wrote your horoscope. What kinds of things motivated you? What goals are you trying to achieve?
Resources: There are a ton of horoscope and astrology sites out there. We modeled the style of my horoscope after the ones on this Instagram account. You can get way more into it, though, by figuring out your natal chart, your houses, or digging into what all the different planets symbolize.
Don’t forget to tag me @homsweethom and #HOMwork2021 #HOMwork if you post your work to Instagram. I love seeing your creations and always post a few of my favorites to my IG Stories during the week (before the next assignment drops).
