WEEK 26 - Say it again...and again...and again...
Sounding like a broken record isn't always a bad thing.
Hello and welcome to Week 26 of #HOMwork!
What comes to mind when you hear the word "repetition"? Probably nothing too exciting, right?
Most of us associate this word with chores, workouts, and studying. Or maybe that cliche grade school punishment: writing "I will not (insert wrongdoing here)" 50 times on the blackboard.
But did you know that repetition is a powerful creative mechanism you can use in your work?
The same way a repeating chorus of a song can get stuck in your head, visually repeating words in your artwork can make a concept or idea that much more impactful. Repeating similar letterforms can also create a cool pattern-like effect in your work.
Your assignment this week is to create a piece with a repeating word or group of words.
But don't just pick any word! I encourage you to pick something that is relevant in your own life or creative practice. I chose 'work' and 'hustle' because lately I've been working nonstop on an new online lettering workshop (details coming soon, I promise!).
Here are a few thought-starters to get you going:
a recurring thought you've been having
an action you've been taking daily
a word or words that have been comforting you lately
a piece of advice you want the world to know
After you complete the assignment, the second part of the challenge is to snap a photo of your drawing and post it on Instagram with the hashtag #HOMwork so we can see what everyone created. In the caption, tell us why your word or phrase is significant in your life.
As always, I'll be featuring my favorites pieces from this week in my Story. Remember to tag me in your posts so I don't miss 'em!
Can’t wait to see what you create :)
Love,
Lauren
P.S. WOAH we've officially reached HALF a year of #HOMwork! Did you know that my parents used to celebrate my half birthday with a half-cake when I was a kid? I know, it was an adorable tradition.
