WEEK 25 - Giggles = creative gold.

Laugh your way to the top of your creative game.

Hello and welcome to Week 25 of #HOMwork!

Genuine laughter is my favorite emotion because it’s a full-body experience. Not only does it shake up my creativity and thoughts, it literally shakes my body - moving my mouth into a smile, making my eyes water, and sometimes even leaving me short of breath.

Your assignment this week is to watch your favorite stand up comedian or a movie/show that makes you laugh (like 'HAHAHA' not just 'haha'), and then letter a short joke or create artwork based on a line that you love.

(If you're wondering what the heck 'Harvard Nectar' is, my piece is inspired by a joke from Ali Wong's raunchy Netflix comedy special Baby Cobra.)

The goal of this assignment is to get you to share your sense of humor with your audience! You never know who’s going to think it’s funny too. Humor is a great way to connect with people because laughter is universal. We all like to do it!

Even if you don’t consider yourself a particularly funny person, I’d love for you to try this exercise and see if it helps you connect with your audience. At the very least, you’ll get to take a break and think about something that makes YOU laugh.

As always, the second part of the challenge is to snap a photo of your drawing and post it on Instagram with the hashtag #HOMwork so we can see what everyone created. In the caption, tell us what you love about the comedian, movie, or show, and tag them in the image they have an Instagram page.

Make sure to complete & post your work before the next challenge goes out for a chance to be featured in my Instagram Story.

Can't wait to get a good giggle out of all the posts this week!

Love,
Lauren

P.S. Think that tagging the comedian in your post is pointless because they'll *never* see it anyways? THINK AGAIN!

Remember Week 21's prompt where we lettered an impactful quote from one of our role models? Kayla (@ladybird.blooms) posted a quote from author Don Miguel Ruiz and tagged him on Instagram...and he reposted it to his page (to a hefty audience of 81,000 followers). Yay!

While this won't happen every time, tagging relevant people in your photos issuch a low-effort way to potentially win big. You really never know who's going to see your work online :)

Over the next few years (and thanks to the power of the internet), she leveraged a few clever passion projects into a thriving design career.

When she's not designing, you can probably find her cooking an elaborate vegetarian meal at home or finally making her way through the niche craft supplies she bought last year.
