WEEK 37 - Amusing Acronyms 🤔

It doesn't mean what you think it means...

Hello and welcome to Week 37 of #HOMwork!

As you may know, I’m a firm believer that *what* you letter is just as important as *how* you letter it, so this week is another exercise in standing out from the crowd by putting your personal spin on something familiar. You’ve got the lettering skills, so now it’s time to show off your personality!

We grew up with internet acronyms like OMG, LOL, WTF, but maybe now, you don’t need “Laugh Out Loud” to convey your feelings because these days it’s really more like “Lots Of Laundry”. Perhaps BRB becomes “Bath, Reading, Bedtime” or my personal fave, “DTF” becomes “Down to Feast”.

Taking something universally recognized and giving it a new meaning by putting your personal twist on it is a great way to stretch your own creative process and stand out from the crowd.

Try taking the acronyms in a whole new direction whether it’s humorous, dark, cheeky, snarky, deep, or gross, as long as it is a reflection of you. It’s like hiding a little surprise in your feed that pokes fun at the norm and shines a light on your unique voice.

This week’s challenge — letter or design your favorite (or most overused) internet-acronym but give it a new meaning. The more unexpected and opposite it is from the original meaning, the better!

After you complete the assignment, the second part of the challenge is to snap a photo of your drawing and post it on Instagram with the hashtag #HOMwork so we can see what everyone would choose to put on their mirrors.

In the caption, tell us what the old acronym meant to you, and why your new version makes more sense for who you are today.

I'll be featuring my favorite pieces from this week in my Instagram Story. Remember to tag me @homsweethom in your posts so I don't miss 'em!
