WEEK 10 - Dance until nobody is watching?

Hey HOMwork friends, happy Friday!

(If this is your first time joining us, take a peek at our Challenge Archive for all previous assignments.)

This week, we have a fun guest assignment from my creative friend Meg Lewis! Meg is a designer making experiences for happy companies. She empowers individuals to discover their unique selves through books, video series, workshops, and talks. She founded Ghostly Ferns, an international collective of designers and commercial artists and she also co-founded Fool Proof, a shared workspace for creativity and collaboration.

From Meg:

Dance until no one is watching” is a tweet I read once then immediately thought, "How silly... to be dancing so intensely, for such a long period of time, that literally everyone has moved on and stopped watching."

I started dancing a few years ago, just for fun, and it’s changed everything about my self-confidence and view of the world. I’m not professionally trained and I definitely look like I don’t know what I’m doing, but I dance with a giant smile on my face and it makes me super happy!

Since reading that tweet I’ve learned through my dancing that it normalizes goofiness and reminds others to care less about how they might be perceived! For me, it's a stress reliever and a healthy reminder to loosen up and let go. It allows me to live more outwardly and be myself in all environments! So every time I bust a move I think about that tweet...which leads us to this week's assignment.

Lauren Hom

Lauren Hom is a designer, letterer, and educator. A self-proclaimed "artist with a business brain", she picked up hand lettering as a hobby while studying advertising in college. Over the next few years (and thanks to the power of the internet), she leveraged a few clever passion projects into a thriving design career.

When she's not designing, you can probably find her cooking an elaborate vegetarian meal at home or finally making her way through the niche craft supplies she bought last year.
