WEEK 18 - What will you find at the end of the rainbow?

Hey HOMwork friends, happy Friday!

(If this is your first time joining us, take a peek at our Challenge Archive for all previous assignments.)

This we have the incredible Amy Tan! A small business owner, proud mama, and craft maven, Amy is the founder of Amy Tangerine, a brand fully committed to providing creatives with the tools and space to see the bright, shiny side of life. In her day-to-day, Amy makes sweet online content as well as top-end products designed to promote a colorful, positive message. She also teaches workshops all over the world, films YouTube videos, and consults with awesome brands including American Crafts, Avery, Amazon and more, all with the intention of building a sense of fun, positive energy and putting valuable resources out in the world for everyone to use. You can meet Amy at the intersection of creativity, passion, and purpose.

From Amy:

Every once in a while when I feel like I'm struggling creatively, I like to make a list of positive statements. I’ve had a lot of thoughts lately about where I am, what my purpose is, and questioning if I’m on the right path. Perhaps you've felt the same way. Give yourself grace. Taking moments to pause and create space for self-reflection has been an essential step for me on the path to feeling joy and happiness.

It’s tempting to get stuck striving for perfection. When we focus on unrealistic expectations for ourselves and others, it can feel a little bit like chasing after the end of a rainbow instead of enjoying it. We miss the point and focus on “results” instead of what actually matters – brilliant, vibrant colors and amazing experiences.

This week I pulled out my alcohol inks and explored a new way of getting messy and making something tangible. I always feel like the best version of myself when I carve out time to make something just for the heck of it. Enjoying the process and not overthinking the end result is both invigorating and therapeutic. Wouldn't you agree? It’s so much better to find your flow and let go of expectations. Which leads to this week's assignment!

'Live inspired. Make bold moves. Spread joy. Be kind. Dream in color. Believe big time. Love Fiercely. Hold onto hope. Hug life. Shine bright.' colorful hand-lettering by Amy Tan.

OMG FREE BRUSHES!

Your Assignment: Letter some positive affirmations combined with a rainbow of sorts. You could illustrate one, you could even do a double rainbow (what?!) or just stick with something simple like putting your mantras in ROYGBIV order.

Combining my love for mantras and positive affirmations with another favorite - rainbows - is always a fun way to showcase the bright side of life. Hope you feel inspired to keep the creative juices flowing.

Caption Idea: Tell us why you chose that mantra!

Don't forget to tag @homsweethom and @amytangerine then follow and use the hashtag #HOMwork so we can see all your colorful mantras! We’ll be sharing our favs in our stories all week!

Lauren Hom

Lauren Hom is a designer, letterer, and educator. A self-proclaimed "artist with a business brain", she picked up hand lettering as a hobby while studying advertising in college. Over the next few years (and thanks to the power of the internet), she leveraged a few clever passion projects into a thriving design career.

When she's not designing, you can probably find her cooking an elaborate vegetarian meal at home or finally making her way through the niche craft supplies she bought last year.
