WEEK 29 - this gets my stamp of approval...

Woah, it's Week 29 of HOMwork 2019!

(If this is your first time joining us, take a peek at our Challenge Archive for all previous assignments.)

I get asked all the time about the tools I use: the lipstick I’m wearing, the sketchbook I'm using, the podcasts I'm listening to...so I started compiling alist of resources that have the Hom Sweet Hom Stamp of Approval.

If you’re ever feeling stuck on coming up with original content for your Instagram or blog, try curating a list of you-approved things! By sharing what you like and enjoy, you’re giving your followers a sneak peek into the things that inspire you and influence your work.

I don’t know about you, but I’ll always take a personal recommendation from someone I admire over a generic Google search for "best (insert item here)". Which leads to this week’s assignment...

'Hell yeah! Hom Sweet Hom Approved" wax seal illustration.

OMG FREE BRUSHES!

Awww yeah - as a HOMwork subscriber, you get two FREE Procreate brushes each week courtesy of DesignCuts.

Your Assignment: Design or illustrate your own stamp of approval!

Caption Idea: Tell us about 5 things that have your personal stamp of approval (podcasts, people, brands, websites, food groups, etc.)

Creative Tip: Get creative with the language and style of your stamp! Instead of the generic red bold letter "APPROVED" stamp that you see on bank loans, try incorporating your own personality into your seal through color, shapes and style. When you put your own spin on something familiar it’s a great way to stand out from the crowd.

Resources: Need some stamp/seal inspo? I love looking through the NYPL Picture Collection for vintage ornate examples of type and ephemera.

Don't forget to tag me @homsweethom and use the hashtag #HOMwork so I can what has your personal stamp of approval. I'll be sharing my faves in my Story all week!

Love,
Lauren

P.S. You can catch on past Q&As here.

Lauren Hom

Lauren Hom is a designer, letterer, and educator. A self-proclaimed "artist with a business brain", she picked up hand lettering as a hobby while studying advertising in college. Over the next few years (and thanks to the power of the internet), she leveraged a few clever passion projects into a thriving design career.

When she's not designing, you can probably find her cooking an elaborate vegetarian meal at home or finally making her way through the niche craft supplies she bought last year.
