WEEK 10
Hey there, thanks for joining us for Week 10 of HOMwork 2020!
This week, we have the amazing Noah Camp as the guest teacher!
Noah has combined 9 years of design and CGI with his love of hand lettering and tactile experiences. He is most well-known for his quirky and playful 3D alphabets, creating visceral reactions with seemingly touchable textures. Noah has worked with clients such as Toys "R" Us, 21st Century Fox, Method Home, BBC, Entertainment Weekly, and more.
From Noah:
"Let’s get nostalgic!
It’s time to bring out your slap bracelets and frosted tips, and put on your favorite mixtape because we are going back to the 90s.
Everybody loves nostalgia. Especially when going through creative block, it can be really helpful to remember our childhood roots. This helps to gain perspective and remember a simpler time (before the pressures of organizing taxes and finding a good plumber to fix the sink). Most importantly, childhood was a time when imagination ran free. Going back to that mindset will always jumpstart my creativity.
That’s why I really enjoyed making 90s TOYpography, a series representing my favorite toys of the 90s. In addition, researching the toys was almost as fun as making them. That’s a great sign you have chosen a subject that truly sparks your imagination. On that note, I thought it would be fun to illustrate one of those crazy 90s sayings we miss so much, and used a few letters of 90s TOYpography to create the piece.
Your assignment: Think of your favorite 90’s saying, and illustrate it.
I encourage you to try to incorporate 90s objects in some way, in the background or making up the letterforms.
Here are some 90s expressions you could try:
“Totally Rad”
“Oh Snap”
“Talk to the Hand”
...and if you’re feeling nice, create one for a loved one:
“You’re the coolest dude/ette”
“You are totally tubular”
Don’t forget to use the #HOMwork and #HOMwork2020 hashtags and tag @noahcampdesign and @homsweethom when you post your work on Instagram. We’ll be sharing our favorites in our Stories all week!

P.S. This year, I’m creating another alphabet themed around something else I loved as a kid...animals! It’s called the #uglycütabet, and showcases a series of animals that are so ugly they are cute! If you participate in the guessing game on my instagram, you could win a 90s TOYpography poster.
