WEEK 17 - Don’t forget your pants!
Hey there, thanks for joining us for Week 17 of HOMwork 2020!
This week’s assignment is all about identifying where we still have control and working on being intentional about those things.
Most of us are well into the second month of self-isolation and it seems like this experience has been a mix of plenty of adjustments as well as some solid introspection. Lots of us are soul searching.
Personally, I’ve been thinking about what I’m able to control (and what I’m not able to control haha). Some of the smallest things - things I never even thought about before - now seem soooo meaningful.
Take the “out the door” morning routine of checking for your essentials - keys, wallet, phone. I used to do this little check almost every day of my life - even weekends - before staying at home became the new norm.
Now I barely ever check for my keys, and I only grab my wallet on rare occasions.
(And since I’m pretty much always in the same space, I never “lose” my phone for any length of time haha.)
But what I’ve really been considering is how I still have daily “essentials” that are important. Even though my “going to work” routine means walking from the kitchen to my desk, there are things I’ve been “checking” for before I get started with my day:
curiosity
audacity
generosity
Although they’re less tangible than keys-wallet-phone, these things are just as important to the start of my day. It helps to remember that we still have control over how we approach our work, and that we can still bring along the things we need for a successful day, even when our commute is only a few feet away!
Which leads me to this week’s assignment...
Your assignment: Think of your own personal, creative version of “keys-wallet-phone” and illustrate your list.
Thought starters: These might be intangible or they might be “new” tangibles. Maybe you’ve traded your phone for a tablet or your keys for mindfulness. Try to come up with a list of positives - you have total control so make this about what will be useful and constructive for you!
Caption ideas: Explain your list, especially items that might not be completely obvious. For example, I have been trying to break out of “safe” mindsets in terms of my business practices so I’m making sure I have audacity “with me” every day when I sit down to work!
Engagement suggestions: Ask your followers what they are currently bringing with them to work (especially now that many of us aren’t carrying keys-wallet-phone). OR ask them to share something they could be more intentional about including in their day.
Remember that this list will look different for everyone! This assignment is less about the content of our lists and more about gaining some *positive* control over our current situation.
Don’t forget to share on Instagram with the hashtag #HOMwork2020 and tag me @homsweethom when you post. I’ll be sharing my favorites in my Story all week!
