WEEK 18
Hey there, thanks for joining us for Week 18 of HOMwork 2020!
This week, we have the talented Molly Jacques as a guest teacher!
Molly Jacques (pronounced Jakes) is a hand lettering artist and founder of #myartbiz, an online platform that enables creatives just like you to turn your skills into an art biz!
She's had the opportunity to work with some pretty incredible clients over the years including Disney, Nike, Target, The New York Times, Capital One, and more! It's been a wild ride and she's loved every minute of it.
From Molly:
Right now, we're all at home - most of us getting *stuck* in our heads. We're feeling uncertain, scared, sad, maybe unmotivated. With that said, it's so incredibly important for us as artists to be our own biggest fans. To push ourselves and show ourselves love, compassion, and support whenever we can.
This past year I've made it a point to at least try to meditate every day. I have to say - it's been life changing and completely eye opening when it comes to recognizing the negative things that I tell myself throughout the day. I've grown to recognize the thought patterns that have been burned into my brain and I have to make a conscious effort to observe those patterns without judgement and challenge them. It takes a lot of work. Most importantly, it requires me to see those thoughts and start to shift my mindset.
Your assignment: Letter or illustrate one phrase or mantra that challenges a negative thought you often have about yourself.
For my piece, I've illustrated "You Only Live Once, Just Do The Thing". This thought goes completely against what I naturally tell myself - that I'm not "good" enough to do something or that I'll look silly...
Here are a few examples to get you started:
If you struggle with thinking your art isn't that special or great: "Don't compare your beginning to someone else's middle".
If you struggle with worrying about the future: "All you have is now, and now is beautiful".et a timer and get started.
If you struggle with perfectionism: "Nobody's perfekt".
Don’t forget to use the hashtag #HOMwork2020 and tag @mollyjacques and @homsweethom when you post your work on Instagram. We’ll be sharing our favorites in our Stories all week!
