This week, we have the talented Josh Ryan as the guest teacher!

Josh Ryan Higgins is a designer, illustrator, and maker of thangs in Houston, TX. He creates products and visuals that connect people through shared experience, emotional vulnerability, and quirky humor. His work has been featured on HuffPost, Forbes.com, and his mom's refrigerator. He’s probably best known for his Introflirted series of fun and flirty love notes for introverts which is now available as a new book!

From Josh:

Valentine's Day is right around the corner, are you prepared? For me, the most important part of Valentine’s Day is the love note. While it’s easy to go buy a nice card from the store (or a book of introvert love notes from me), you still need to write a heartfelt message inside. So why not skip the middle-person and write your own love note?

'You are the secret ingredient in my blanket burrito.' Introflirted love note by Josh Higgins.

Your assignment: Make an original love note that reflects your life and personality.

This could be a love note to your partner, family, your pets, yourself, your favorite food, anything! Just make it come from your heart!

If you need help coming up with an idea, check out my PDF guide to writing love notes here.

Don’t forget to use the #HOMwork and #HOMwork2020 hashtags and tag @imakethangs and @homsweethom when you post your work on Instagram. We’ll be sharing our favorites in our Stories all week!

We can't wait to see all of your love notes.

x,
Josh and Lauren

Lauren Hom

Lauren Hom is a designer, letterer, and educator. A self-proclaimed "artist with a business brain", she picked up hand lettering as a hobby while studying advertising in college. Over the next few years (and thanks to the power of the internet), she leveraged a few clever passion projects into a thriving design career.

When she's not designing, you can probably find her cooking an elaborate vegetarian meal at home or finally making her way through the niche craft supplies she bought last year.
