WEEK 46 - Food lovers, this one’s for you.

Hey there, thanks for joining us for Week 46 of HOMwork 2020!

It’s no secret that food and design are two of my biggest passions. I mean, my motto is “Work hard, snack often” after all haha...

Which is why I was so thrilled when @AdobeDesign wanted to sponsor a HOMwork assignment that combines the two: sharing a favorite dish & designing a recipe card for it!

Plus, if you use Adobe InDesign to lay out your recipe card, you’ll be entered to win a MacBook and a one-year subscription of Adobe Creative Cloud. Keep reading for more details :)

For me, cooking is creative meditation. In fact, making art and cooking food are the only two things that really get me into that sweet flow state. No matter what’s going on, these activities bring me back to a place of creation, joy, and care.

Cooking is also a way to practice good self care, by putting good food in my body.

And, of course, cooking for other people is like the single best way I know to demonstrate love. Food is a pretty universal love language.

Sharing recipes is basically a shortcut way to accomplish all of the wonderful things mentioned above. That’s especially true in this season of lots of physical separation; we can’t have all of our friends over for dinner but we can share our favorite recipes with them!

And, thanks to this Adobe InDesign template that my friend Christine Herrin and I created for you, whatever recipes you share will be *extra* special:

Your assignment: Pick a favorite recipe + design a recipe card for it!

You can save time by downloading our Adobe InDesign recipe card template + customizing it with your own recipe, colors, lettering and/or illustrations! Here’s a tutorial to learn how to use and remix the template. Or you can run wild and design your whole recipe card from scratch.

(Note: you can use any program/medium to design your recipe card for this assignment *but* If you also want to be entered to win the Macbook and 1-year Creative Cloud subscription, you need to use InDesign in some capacity. Click here to view Adobe’s full contest details.

Caption ideas: Tell us why you chose this recipe or tell a memorable story related to the recipe. Part of the fun of sharing recipes is the stories around them - that’s why food blogs often tell a whole long story before you get to the actual recipe haha.

Share your finished recipe card on Instagram with the hashtag #HOMwork2020 & tag @homsweethom @AdobeDesign and @christine.herrin when you post your work, too! We’ll be featuring our favorite recipe cards in our Stories all week.

BONUS contest tags: add the hashtags #InDesign and #contest for a chance to win a Macbook and 1-year Creative Cloud subscription, courtesy of Adobe. View full details here

Can’t wait to see what everyone is cooking up in their creative kitchens this holiday season!

Over the next few years (and thanks to the power of the internet), she leveraged a few clever passion projects into a thriving design career.

When she's not designing, you can probably find her cooking an elaborate vegetarian meal at home or finally making her way through the niche craft supplies she bought last year.
