This week, I'm excited to introduce Isabel Urbina Peña as our guest teacher!
Isabel is a multidisciplinary artist from Venezuela running her own studio in Brooklyn, NY. She focuses on everything typographic: lettering, book covers, book design and typeface design.
She's worked at Penguin Random House, American Museum of Natural History, C&G Partners and Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Caracas Sofía Ímber and her client list includes The New York Times, Etsy, BuzzFeed, The New York Historical Society, Refinery 29, EveryTown and Girlboss amongst others. Isabel is an AIGA Board Member and was named a 2015 New Visual Artist: 15 under 30 by PRINT Magazine. She is also a Type@Cooper Graduate and ProDiseño Alumna.
She loves to work on projects that have a positive social impact and is passionate about building a more inclusive design community. In her spare time she teaches, speaks at conferences, draws zines and sews.
From Isabel:
As May comes to an end and we wrap up Mental Awareness Month, I'm left with the feeling that we should be opening up, thinking, talking and discussing Mental Health and wellbeing more openly and often; not just this time of year.
I don't know about you, but this pandemic has been a rollercoaster for my sanity. Finding the space to connect with myself, listen to my needs and wants has been really important.
Your assignment: Letter a phrase or mantra that helps you get through the day, week, month when you're feeling down.
Something that lifts your spirits; it can be lyrics to a song, a quote, or something written by you.
Don’t forget to use the hashtags #HOMwork2021 & tag @bellera and @homsweethom when you post your work.
We’ll both be sharing our favorites in our Stories all week!
