WEEK 29 - What are you REALLY saving those pennies for?
What are you really saving your pennies for?
Hello and welcome to Week 29 of #HOMwork!
In 2014, I started a playful passion project called Wiggy Banks aka piggy banks for adults (or people pretending to be adults).
The idea came from the coin jars my roommates and I always kept in the living room for spare change. A lot of people have them but never really have an intended purpose for the money inside.
Usually, we’d use it for bus fare or the laundromat. Boring, right?
I counted all of the coins in our jar one night and realized we had over $100, which was actually enough money to buy cool stuff. I immediately thought of all the useful things I could buy, like books and art supplies...
But quickly realized that I’d probably just end up buying wine and cookies like any other 24 year old would. I wrote down a list of some other funny and true things that my friends and I spent our money on, bought some jars and paint, and Wiggy Banks was born.
Your assignment this week is to design a Wiggy Bank of your own! Illustrate or create a piggy bank with the funny or interesting thing(s) you're saving your coins for written on it.
If you need any inspiration, check out the Wiggy Banks website.
The takeaway from this passion project backstory? Design things for you + your friends, and you'll never go wrong.
I design things for myself because I know there are people out there like me. No matter your style or interests or sense of humor, there’s a market for it (thanks to the Internet).
If you think something is funny, chances are there are other people who will too. If you love something, chances are there are other people out there who do too.
You are your best marketer because you are your target audience!
After you complete the assignment, the second part of the challenge is to snap a photo of your drawing and post it on Instagram with the hashtag #HOMwork so we can see what everyone created. In the caption, tell us about your Wiggy Bank and how you’re going to treat yourself when you fill it up.
As always, I'll be featuring my favorite pieces from this week in my Story. Remember to tag me in your posts so I don't miss 'em.
Can't wait to see what silly things you're saving for :)
