WEEK 31 - Some things were just meant to be.

"You're the gin to my tonic" hand lettering greeting by Lauren Hom.

Hello and welcome to Week 31 of #HOMwork!

When was the last time you let someone know you were thinking of them? Inspired by this card I designed for Hallmark way back when, this week we're using creative pairs to surprise the people we appreciate.

Your assignment this week is to letter or design a card for someone you love using the phrase format "You're the _____ to my _____" and then surprise them by tagging them in the post (if they have an Instagram).

Get creative with your pairs, ideally choosing something that relates to you and the person you're surprising! Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • combinations of food (ie. wine + cheese)

  • pairs of TV/movie characters (ie. Chandler + Joey)

  • things in life that go together (ie. sweatpants + weekend)

After you complete the assignment, the second part of the challenge is to snap a photo of your drawing and post it on Instagram with the hashtag #HOMwork so we can see what unique pairs everyone came up with.

In the caption, write a kind message to that person and tell them why they're amazing.

Bonus points
for prompting your audience to pay it forward and surprise someone they love with a 'just because' card too.

Bonus BONUS points for adding in a few illustrations to complement your lettering, especially if you typically just do lettering for these challenges.

As always, I'll be featuring my favorite pieces from this week in my Story. Remember to tag me @homsweethom (and the person the card is for, if they have an Instagram!) in your posts so I don't miss 'em.

Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Love,
Lauren
