WEEK 42

Hey there, thanks for joining us for Week 42 of HOMwork 2020!

This week, we have the amazing Jenna Blazevich of Vichcraft as a guest teacher!!!

Vichcraft is the independent and collaborative, multi-disciplinary studio of Jenna Blazevich. With a focus on visual storytelling, she strives to craft charmingly unique brand experiences. Her agency experience has allowed for a portfolio ranging from small to large client projects. Combining hand craft processes and tactile mediums with a digital design skill-set, Vichcraft strives to work right around the line between art and design to build a collection of activist-driven products.

From Jenna:

One of the positive things that this turbulent year has brought us has been the inclination to stand up for social justice being felt by some people previously less inclined to do so. From being critical of the way the government handles a global pandemic, to a massive resurgence of effort to fight against systemic racial injustice, there have been countless opportunities to self-educate and develop tools to make participation in fighting for social justice sustainable. There has been a major emphasis on voting in this year's presidential election, and while that is absolutely important, submitting a ballot is only the beginning. What are the ways you plan to bring your advocacy and activism into future days, months, or years, regardless of the election’s outcome?

'A ballot is only the beginning' hand-lettering by Jenna Blazevich.

Your assignment: Create a lettered call-to-action that functions as a mantra for your own life, as well something that may inspire others to commit to the sustainability of their efforts to fight for social justice.

Don’t forget to use the hashtag #HOMwork2020 & tag @vichcraft and @homsweethom when you post your calls-to-action, too! We’ll be sharing our favorites in our Stories all week!

x Jenna & Lauren

P.S. Jenna is selling this amazing print based on a jacket she made with her hand-crank chainstitch embroidery machine. Sales of this print will go toward covering the vet bills for one of her parrots, Pz (featured on the left in the print), who needed emergency care after a seizure. Read more about Pz here.

Lauren Hom

Lauren Hom is a designer, letterer, and educator. A self-proclaimed "artist with a business brain", she picked up hand lettering as a hobby while studying advertising in college. Over the next few years (and thanks to the power of the internet), she leveraged a few clever passion projects into a thriving design career.

When she's not designing, you can probably find her cooking an elaborate vegetarian meal at home or finally making her way through the niche craft supplies she bought last year.
