WEEK 44

Hey there, thanks for joining us for Week 44 of HOMwork 2020!

This week, we have the amazing Gia Graham as a guest teacher!!!

Gia Graham is a lettering artist, illustrator and Skillshare Top Teacher based in Atlanta, originally from sunny Barbados. Gia credits her island background for influencing the vibrant colors and lush florals and foliage she often incorporates into her work. Over her 20 year creative career, she has worked in corporate graphic design, run her own stationery business and now focuses on licensing her art to product-based companies.

From Gia:

This year has been a wild ride. We've all been under a great deal of stress and it can feel like moments of joy are hard to come by. For the sake of self care, I think it's important to intentionally seek out little moments of joy every day, acknowledge and celebrate them!

What little things bring you joy? Is it that first warm cookie right out of the oven (mmm, heaven!) or receiving a package of goodies you forgot you ordered (so fun!)? Those things definitely spark joy for me but number one on my list has to be my plant babies. During quarantine, I planted a little flower garden and each bright new bloom was a reason to celebrate... and now that the weather is cooling down, my indoor plant babies are giving me a reason to smile every day :)

Your assignment: Think of one small thing that brings you joy and celebrate it through your art!

Don’t forget to use the hashtag #HOMwork2020 & tag @iamgiagraham and @homsweethom when you post your work, too! We’ll be sharing our favorites in our Stories all week!

P.S. If you'd like to learn all of Gia's tricks and techniques, be sure to check out her classes on Skillshare. You can also subscribe to her email newsletter to receive mini tutorials and a new color palette each month!

Lauren Hom

Lauren Hom is a designer, letterer, and educator. A self-proclaimed "artist with a business brain", she picked up hand lettering as a hobby while studying advertising in college. Over the next few years (and thanks to the power of the internet), she leveraged a few clever passion projects into a thriving design career.

When she's not designing, you can probably find her cooking an elaborate vegetarian meal at home or finally making her way through the niche craft supplies she bought last year.
